Write and Illustrate Your Own Book Contest
After a one year break the annual writing contest is back. Everyone in grades K-6 are encouraged to participate. Contest rules will be posted in each classroom. In addition, the rules for the contest are posted on the district web site.
Note: Students may submit an entry for the writing contest to Mrs. Catherman in fourth grade. The contest is open from January 14 through April 8th.

Contest Rules
All rules must be followed to prevent disqualification!
- The title page of the book must include the name and grade of the author of the book.
- You may be the author/illustrator of only one entry.
- If you choose to illustrate your book, the drawings should be original, not computer generated. You may use colored pencils, crayons, or non-smear markers.
- Only original versions are to be submitted. NO COPIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. Printing or word processing on plain computer paper is desired. Anyone in your family may assist with proofing and typing your story, but not with the actual writing.
- Margins of 1 inch are preferred to allow for binding of the book, if you should win.
- A front cover may be designed for your book. The same rules apply regarding illustrations and pictures if you decide to include one on the front cover. See rule #3 for more information.
- Class stories may be created and submitted with one exception: each story must have its own ending completed entirely by an individual student. In other words, whole class stories with the same ending will be disqualified. Each entry will be judged individually.
Note: Do not glue or attach illustrations to any pages.
Note: Classes that select this approach should have their stories submitted in a group by the homeroom teacher. The class collection should be submitted in a one envelope and include the teacher’s name, grade, and room number. This will facilitate easy return at the conclusion of the contest.
