The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc. (PIAA) recently announced that Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School (CJSHS) 11th graders Ty Aveni and Rowan Mattern have been selected to attend the 2024 National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) National Student Leadership Summit. The summit is scheduled for July 22nd through July 25th in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The PIAA received applications from student‐athletes from across Pennsylvania. After a thorough review of all the applications, Aveni and Mattern were among the few selected to attend the summit. Only twenty were selected from across the Commonwealth.
“Leadership development of student-athletes is essential to the success of any athletic team or program, and we are fortunate that two of our very own Bison student-athletes and leaders, Ty and Rowan, were selected to represent Clearfield and the PIAA at this year’s NFHS Leadership Summit,” said Robert Gearhart, Clearfield Area School District (CASD) Athletics Director. “As one of only a few student-athletes selected from the entire state, it is a tremendous honor, and we are excited to see what they learn and can bring back to CASD to better our school district and community!”
According to a press release issued by the PIAA, the NFHS National Student Leadership Summit provides a forum for student leaders to discuss contemporary issues facing education‐based athletics and activities. Through interactive, large and small group discussions, these leaders will learn to promote respect, positive values, sportsmanship, teamwork, healthy lifestyles, and community service.
Participation in the National Leadership Summit is made possible by the PIAA Foundation. The PIAA Foundation was established in 2008 to sponsor and support student character and sportsmanship educational programs.
Congratulations to Ty Aveni and Rowan Mattern for this tremendous achievement.
